I am not sure how to start this without sounding like I am a tiny piece of crazy!
There is so much time spent, for me, with people; talking, caring and generally supporting, that I often feel the need for complete quiet. But recently I have struggled to focus and have looked for other venues to try to motivate myself.
MY latest find is my local pub, The Stamford Arms, Groby. Not for alcohol (especially at 10:30 am on a chilly Autumn morning) but for the motivation of a huge coffee, so big that I can practically swim in it, and the drive to find a new and inspiring working environment. But, why does the local pub hold so much power?
VERY often the pub is the heart of the community. Even at this early hour of the morning, I am not alone. The cross section of human life which is already here is inspiring. Which brings into play, my other favourite thing in the world, which is people watching.
THE slightly older guy who looks like he has slipped out for a paper and then into the pub before heading home to his wife; the young couple so in love that they can’t finish their coffee without giggling impishly at the stolen moments of last night. But always, just a gaggle of normal people leading normal lives, which at times find themselves in the same place and the same moment of time.
THE staff are always welcoming and inviting and ensure that your every whim is catered for; and the food – well for me, the Cooked Breakfast ranks top of the local breakfasts and the Chicken Pie leaves you feeling like you have eaten at your mums. But top of the pinnacle for me is the Steak. A perfect dark steak running with hot juice and moist like there is no comparison.
WHERE is this place? For me it’s the Stamford arms in Groby, Leicestershire. Take the time to support your local businesses, they are at the heart of a community where life will continue for many years to come.
